DC/UOIT 7th Annual Golf Tournament

Thursday June 25 marked a great day in Durham College and the University of Ontario Instutitue of Technology’s golf history. The tournament, set at the Summerlea Golf Club in Port Perry, saw team “Dearly Departed” fight their way to the top of the pack by shooting an amazing -9, and finishing with a final score of 49.

Congratulations to everyone on the team – Tony, Justin, Michelle, and myself.

At the good ol’ baseball game

Yesterday we had a great time at the diamond. It was a long-time-coming, but the Pylons – headed up by Michelle, had finally met their match with the devoted Hazards – headed up by yours truly.

Blood, sweat, tears, 6-innings, and an 8-8 tie, followed-up by a BBQ at Brandon’s.

What a great day!

I just wanted to post a friendly reminder that today is the last day to get the donations in for the charity volleyball tournament that I’m playing in this weekend.

My original goal of $250 was completely smashed, and so I’ve upped it to $450.

Right now, I’ve raised $395!!! It’s so close to the goal… I’m hoping that anyone reading this will feel generous and help me surpass the $450 mark.

Charity volleyball tournament

A bunch of us from work are getting together again for the Icewave beach volleyball tournament.

Another award under my belt from the CCAE

I found out – at a department meeting yesterday – that I received a CCAE bronze medal for a DVD project that was completed last summer by myself and Justin.

We submitted the award in the “Best Audio + Visual and/or Multimedia” category and place third. This is a very big deal, as we went up against all other colleges and universities across Canada.

A lot of hard work, hours of tweaking and testing, and it paid off. YAY!

Nothing really newsworthy today – just at work. Had a meeting this morning, have another LONG meeting this afternoon. Then I get to drive in the weather that’s supposed to hit the GTA. YAY!Can you smell the enthusiasm?On another note, I found on the Skype website something that they call “WeeMee” – anyways, this is a screen capture of mine – basically this is how I’m feeling today…

I made it…

Well, after about 3.5 hour drive, I finally made it to Rochester. I decided to do the drive, instead of take the ferry. I ended up getting a Pontiac Grand AM LS. Decent car. Glad it had cruise control. 94km on the I-90 straight driving…

It was a very easy drive, $3.25 for highway tolls (in the US), 1/2 a tank of gas, and about 370km.

I only had maps on my PPC for Ontario, so I could only use my GPS for about 1/2 the way. It’s a good thing I had directions printed off from Google maps. I need to get the maps for North America.

The motel room is decent. No complaints. Looks like it was recently renovated.

It’s a shame I couldn’t get a room at the conference centre where the convention is. There’s an indoor pool, tons of stuff to do, etc. Oh well, maybe next time.

Do I take the ferry?

So… for $64US I can take the ferry (one way) from Toronto to Rochester. It’s about a 2.5hr trip. The thing is this – it leaves at 7 p.m. and I’m supposed to be there about an hour before it takes off.

So, do I leave Toronto earlier in the day (say 11am) and drive down and take my chances at the border, traffic, etc. etc., or do I go much later and take the ferry?
