Well, Rosalee and I went to a cottage this weekend. Today I went out with a few people fishing.

Here’s a video from our outing. Today, Sammy caught his personal best at Lake Simcoe. A 7.5lb bass! Congrats! Hope it makes some good eatin’!

Men’s 25 rules for women.

Got this in an e-mail… thought I would share it.. :)

  1. Men are NOT mind readers.
  2. Learn to work the toilet seat.
    You’re a big girl.
    • If it’s up, put it down.
    • We need it up, you need it down.
    • You don’t hear us complaining about you leaving it down.
  3. Sunday sports. It’s like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.
  4. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way.
  5. Crying is blackmail.
  6. Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:

    • Subtle hints do not work!
    • Strong hints do not work!
    • Obvious hints do not work!
    • Just say it!
  7. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.
  8. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That’s what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.
  9. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a Problem. See a doctor.
  10. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 Days.
  11. If you won’t dress like the Victoria ‘s Secret girls, don’t Expect us to act like soap opera guys.
  12. If you think you’re fat, you probably are. Don’t ask us.
  13. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of them makes you sad or angry, then we meant the  other one
  14. You can either ask us to do something, or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.
  15. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.
  16. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.
  17. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color . Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.
  18. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.
  19. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," We will act like nothing’s wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle, besides we know you will bring it up again later.
  20. If you ask a question you don’t want an answer to, Expect an answer you don’t want to hear.
  21. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine…Really.
  22. Don’t ask us what we’re thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball, the shotgun formation, or golf.
  23. You have enough clothes.
  24. You have too many shoes.
  25. I am in shape. Round IS a shape!

Well… we made it back! We hit Best Buy, Sport Mart, The Source, HMV, Foot Locker, and Zellers. And we were home by 9:15!

This year went pretty well, nearly bought a ton of stuff that I didn’t want/need/have a place for – some of the prices on things were VERY good. Oh well… maybe next year! :)

Here’s a picture of the line-up at Best Buy from 3:40 a.m. today – that’s when Elliott and I arrived… We were #51 & 52 in the line, which meant that we were part of the first group into the store – which meant that we were able to get everything that we wanted to get. All in all – very successful.

BB @ 3:40

The way they had it setup, made no sense. I had to wait in a line-up inside for approx. 30-minutes to purchase an item that I had the reservation paper for (got that while waiting in line), then I went to line-up in another line by the car audio. After 20-min. in that line, I asked a sales rep. if I was in the right spot, they said that I have to drive the car around to the back to get the TV, not wait in the line. There was some serious miscommunication going on.

We finally checked out – about 2 hours after entering the store – what a disaster that was. Elliott saw a guy checking people out on the side – from one of the computers, so I went to join him. It was taking next to forever. We left that line after approx. 25-min. of not moving anywhere, to join the main line. About 1/2 way through that line, we were by the Customer Service desk, and the lady there said that we can get checked out by them. So we veer out of the main line, and we were next in line (vs. 30th or so), to find out that the guy ahead of us wanted to pay with like 3 credit cards for his stinkin’ PSP, and the other guy was complaining to the CSR about pictures he ordered, and how they’re not ready, and he wants them – but the system told him Dec. 30. The other lady – the one who told us to go into the CS line – was busy with some other shmoe.  We finally go through, out, loaded up the car with tons of bargoons, drove around to the back, go the TV, and headed off to continue to the rest of our planned stops.

Time for a nap!

Boxing day madness!

Yup… I believe this is the 4th year of the annual “wakeup at 3 a.m. and go boxing day shopping” extravaganza!

What’s on the list this year?

  • 26 or 27″ plasma/LCD tv
  • arm wall mount for the plasma/LCD
  • 2 laptops (sub $700 range – there are quite a few)
  • 15 or 17″ LCD widescreen tv
  • wireless keyboard and mouse combo
  • star trek series dvd’s
  • running shoes
  • chandelier

Most of the items are for family or friends… so I guess I’ll see if I can live up to the reputation I’ve earned from the past few years. Hopefully, nobody will be let down.

Best of luck to those of you strong enough to fight your way through the concrete jungle of stores to get your discounted items. I know I’ll be sporting my hockey gear…

That time of my life again… (time for a new car)
11.11.2006
News, Play

Well, it’s getting to that time. My car lease expires in March 2007, so I’m out looking for a new vehicle! yay… I love shopping for cars.

Basically the 3 that I’m looking at are:

  • Audi A4 2.0T Quattro Avant
  • BMW 328XiT
  • Volvo V50 T5 AWD

So I’ve test drove all of them. I even went and tested out Subaru – I was not impressed at the lack of features that the Legacy wagon has when it’s priced around $40,000.

Take a look at this website for the Edmunds.com comparison of these 3 cars.

What am I looking for in a car:

  • Good gas consumption. I drive a lot (to and from work is all highway driving) and I want something that’s good on gas so that I’m not spending my entire paycheck on gas.
  • Great safety. Since I do a lot of highway driving, I want something that’s extremely safe, and rated high.
  • All wheel drive. This ties into the safety issue. The all wheel drive makes a huge difference in the winter and in the mid to late fall and early to mid spring. Once you have AWD, it’s hard to get a vehicle without it.
  • Xenon headlights. They make a HUGE difference when driving at dawn, dusk, and at night.
  • Leather w/ heated seats and a sunroof – I love them. Once you have them, it’s hard to go back.
  • Comfort – I spend about 2 hours/day in my car. I want it to be comfortable and worry free.
  • Long intermissions between oil changes and tune-ups/maintenance. Because of the driving I do, I don’t want to be at the dealership for maintenance every 1.5 months. At least 12,000km between regular scheduled maintenance is what I’m looking for. That’s about 4 months of driving.
  • Wagon/hatchback – I miss the cargo space I had in my SUV.
  • Compass – it’s true… I’ll admit it… sometimes I have no idea what direction I’m going in, let alone where I’m going. I have a portable GPS unit (it’s an add-on for my PDA) but I don’t always take it with me.

That’s about it for my wants.

Take a look at the link to the Edmunds car site review of my 3 choices and let me know what you think.

macbook pro as a primary (part 2)

so… I did it (pics to follow over the net couple days)

I went to a warehouse sale today, and found a fellows monitor stand that will do what I want! plus it’s height adjustable. It doesn’t look some amazing but hey… it was a whopping $10! (reg. 49.99)

I also bought a bytecc laptop cooling station (to put on top of the stand that I mentioned above) so that it keeps my macbook pro cool – there are 2 fans on the bottom of it that are powered by USB (my 20″ lcd has 2 USB ports on the side so i plugged it into there hehehe)

I also bought a new usb keyboard (looks really nice) it’s a pc keyboard but works just fine on the mac.

I ALSO (yup… more stuff) bought a USB hub that allows you to share 4 devices (or more if you plug another hub into it) with 2 computers. You can select which computer has each device independantly. I decided to remove my mouse from the setup and try to use my tablet fulltime at home. I have a Graphire 4 – so I have a mouse with it too in case I feel like reverting.

So, I’ve removed my primary desktop from the setup, my CRT from the setup, my ATI Remote Wonder from the setup, my KVM and a whole bunch of cables. I think that I’m going to be happy with this setup… I guess we’ll find out over the next week or so as I give this a go.
