The pearlized “ocean blue” colour is also a contender. The only problem is that I have to see it in person to find out if I would get sick of it or not. The 3 dealerships near me say that they never stock a car in that colour because it’s not popular. Guess I have to drive further to check it out.
Do you think that the red would make me a target for the police?

Ok, so I’ve decided (based on test drives, and pricing) that I’m going to go with the 2007 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro Avant.
The only problem now, is I’ve got not idea which colour to get. The red is sleek and sexy, but the grey is a bit more reserved and quiet.
Which do you think I should get? Take a look at the pictures below…

Ok, so I finally took some photos of my new setup! Here you go…
Image 1
This is the desk – I’ll explain my setup.
This is the older style ikea desk (the model name is “Jerker” – no jokes please!)
On the left are 3 shelves that I use for my filing.
Top shelf I have my laser printer, a bunch of pictures, mini etch a sketch, some dolls, and an Austin Powers bobble head! Underneith the baboon, frog and dog, is my colour printer (epson 1280 – prints 13×44 borderless!!!) and on a shelf on the right is my mic – on a boom stand (I ripped apart an old desk lamp and made this) and my scanner. Both printers and scanner are plugged into the computer sitting on another shelf on the bottom left.
The middle shelf I have some more filing, my 20″ WS monitor (it’s my primary monitor for the computer on the left, as well as for my macbook pro when it’s plugged in. Beside that is my macbook pro. It’s on a bytecc dual fan stand, that’s on top of a 4″ monitor stand (well… laptop stand now). Teh fan is USB powered, so I have it plugged into a USB port on my monitor. It has an on/off switch on the back, so I only turn it on when it gets warm. Beside that I have the mouse for my tablet. Some cd’s and a shelf with my headphones and telephone. I have a corded phone, in case the power goes out I can still use the phone.
On my desktop, I have my drink (my L speaker is behind that), 1 of my external drives, my keyboard my tablet, the my R speaker. Just to the left and behind the R speaker is the USB switchbox that I bought. To the right of the R speaker and just in front, is the pen for my tablet. The subwoofer is on the shelf on the bottom R.

Everything is the same, except you can see the shelf that I built underneith. It has my router, network USB storage adapter, network drive, and cable modem.

For me to switch from back and forth between the computers, I push the input change on my monitor, and press 2 of the buttons on the USB switch (for the keyboard, and tablet). I suppose I could plug the tablet into 1 of the USB ports on my keyboard, but the thing with that, is that the ports are on the R side. So I couldn’t put them right next to eachother. No big deal for me to push 2 buttons. I have VNC installed on my computer, so I usually use that to connect to it and manipulate it. It’s there more for serving data and running my databases more than anything else.
So, that’s my system… in a nut-shell…
What do you think?

Well, it’s getting to that time. My car lease expires in March 2007, so I’m out looking for a new vehicle! yay… I love shopping for cars.
Basically the 3 that I’m looking at are:
- Audi A4 2.0T Quattro Avant
- BMW 328XiT
- Volvo V50 T5 AWD
So I’ve test drove all of them. I even went and tested out Subaru – I was not impressed at the lack of features that the Legacy wagon has when it’s priced around $40,000.
Take a look at this website for the Edmunds.com comparison of these 3 cars.
What am I looking for in a car:
- Good gas consumption. I drive a lot (to and from work is all highway driving) and I want something that’s good on gas so that I’m not spending my entire paycheck on gas.
- Great safety. Since I do a lot of highway driving, I want something that’s extremely safe, and rated high.
- All wheel drive. This ties into the safety issue. The all wheel drive makes a huge difference in the winter and in the mid to late fall and early to mid spring. Once you have AWD, it’s hard to get a vehicle without it.
- Xenon headlights. They make a HUGE difference when driving at dawn, dusk, and at night.
- Leather w/ heated seats and a sunroof – I love them. Once you have them, it’s hard to go back.
- Comfort – I spend about 2 hours/day in my car. I want it to be comfortable and worry free.
- Long intermissions between oil changes and tune-ups/maintenance. Because of the driving I do, I don’t want to be at the dealership for maintenance every 1.5 months. At least 12,000km between regular scheduled maintenance is what I’m looking for. That’s about 4 months of driving.
- Wagon/hatchback – I miss the cargo space I had in my SUV.
- Compass – it’s true… I’ll admit it… sometimes I have no idea what direction I’m going in, let alone where I’m going. I have a portable GPS unit (it’s an add-on for my PDA) but I don’t always take it with me.
That’s about it for my wants.
Take a look at the link to the Edmunds car site review of my 3 choices and let me know what you think.

I went to a warehouse sale today, and found a fellows monitor stand that will do what I want! plus it’s height adjustable. It doesn’t look some amazing but hey… it was a whopping $10! (reg. 49.99)
I also bought a bytecc laptop cooling station (to put on top of the stand that I mentioned above) so that it keeps my macbook pro cool – there are 2 fans on the bottom of it that are powered by USB (my 20″ lcd has 2 USB ports on the side so i plugged it into there hehehe)
I also bought a new usb keyboard (looks really nice) it’s a pc keyboard but works just fine on the mac.
I ALSO (yup… more stuff) bought a USB hub that allows you to share 4 devices (or more if you plug another hub into it) with 2 computers. You can select which computer has each device independantly. I decided to remove my mouse from the setup and try to use my tablet fulltime at home. I have a Graphire 4 – so I have a mouse with it too in case I feel like reverting.
So, I’ve removed my primary desktop from the setup, my CRT from the setup, my ATI Remote Wonder from the setup, my KVM and a whole bunch of cables. I think that I’m going to be happy with this setup… I guess we’ll find out over the next week or so as I give this a go.

Computer problem
I’ve decided to upgrade my server w/ my desktop hardware and use my laptop as my primary computer. (my desktop and server an PC-based).
I have a ps/2 kbd, a USB mouse (w/ ps/2 adapter) plugged into a KVM for the 2 pc’s. I have 2 monitors too (20.1″ ws lcd, and a 17″ crt – the crt is the one plugged into the kvm). My KVM is ps/2 not usb.
So… because my primary desktop died, I was thinking that I would upg. my server, and then use my laptop as my primary. Having said that, I want to do dual monitor with it, and use a regular kbd/mou and my tablet (plugged directly into the desktop).
I have to pickup the following:
usb kbd
usb kvm
stand for the laptop/cooling pad
Also, are there any problems with having the laptop on nearly all the time plugged into the wall?
Anyone have thoughts about my setup? what I should or shouldn’t do?

Due to the amount of spam on the blog, I’ve had to take some measures to prevent it (damn you… you bastards!).
The one measure that will affect you directly, is that now you have to setup an account (it’s easy and best of all, it’s FREE) to post messages or replys.
Sorry… but over 300 spam posts a day is a bit much to sort through.
